The following E-Mail found its way to the inbox of a local mobile disk jockey. The problem with the e-mail is that IT'S A SCAM. For those of you that haven't been paying attention, any time anyone says that they'll send you a check for more than the amount of the product/service you're offering and you simply need to cash the check and send back the difference take note - the check they send you will be forged but it won't be caught until after you've sent the refund check and the perpetrator of this fraud has cashed it. Your bank will debit your account for the value of the check and you'll simply be out the hundreds or thousands of dollars you forwarded to the "buyer".
The E-mail is below. Note that the "buyer" purports that her mom is American and that she is from the UK yet her English is TERRIBLE. This is a perfect example of a red flag that any similar e-mail should throw up (the second, of course, being that you are to send the buyer a refund check).

Good day Overthere, I introduce myself as Lisa Grant i have been in the UK working for years and never had time for my Kids. But this year is a great year for me, my first and Last Daughter are having great celebrations, and i have promised to send for you as the DJ for the two different occassions, the 1st Occassion would be my Last Daughter 17th Birthday, it would be celebrated in July 10th 2006 and the 2nd Occassion would be my First Daughter wedding ceremony which would be on August 26th 2006, I want you to understand that people would come from different part of the world to celebrate with me and my Last child and my First Daughter, because of my personality in the UK. My Daughters are located in the US, i too there mother is a US Citizen, but my Administrative work took me there. I also want you to know there is an after party to end this whole celebration, it would be for the VIPs only which would be attended by US Presidential cabinet, UK Governing members, we have made special arrangments regarding securities of Lives and Properties so dont bother about that...aspect. Pls we would handle this Celebration one after the other. Starting with my Last daughter, Let me know the cost of your service for playing from 12:00pm till 6:00pm , we like the following music played that Day, Karaoke, Hip-Hop, R&B, Rock etc, Do your best, cos its gonna make you popular, so other personality can invite you when they wanna do celebrations too. But one thing, the Venue of the celebration of the Birthday is not chossen yet for security reason.
But we plan on doing it your City and State, we would make use of any Hall available, So let me know your City, State so that arrangement can be made.
My Daughters would travel from where they are located in the states to the Venue of the party some days to the D-day. So get back to me with your service fee for playing in a Birthday Party of a 17yrs old girl and playing withing hours of 12:00pm and 6:00pm. Then if we are done with this celebration and you are Good and OK, take my words you would play for the Wedding and After-Party. Get my point that i am taking a work-leave in YK where i work, for all this celebration. Dont bother about travelling, because the venue of the party would be in the States where you are located, so also get back to me with your city and State.
