FAQ: If I have HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis can I still donate?

Although donors with certain medical conditions or diseases cannot donate tissue and eyes, they can donate organs to others with the same medical conditions or diseases.

For example, an AIDS patient can donate his or her heart to another AIDS patient.  He or she cannot donate a heart to a non-AIDS patient.

HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis patients eligible for the waiting list do not necesarily have to wait for an HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis donor.  Their chances for receiving an organ are equal to that of an otherwise healthy recipient.
