FAQ: Can I still have an open casket or viewing?

Those involved with organ, eye and tissue donation are very concerned with the donor's appearance.

Incisions are made only in areas that will be covered by clothing.  Where bones are procured prosthetics will be place to maintain the physical structure.

After surgery, all incisions are sutured (stitched up) just as the if the donor were still alive.

Eyes are replaced with prosthetics which mimic the structure and appearance of the donor's eyes and skin is only taken from areas that will be covered by clothing.

Beyond this, Funeral Directors often undergo specialized training that provides specific tools and techniques designed to ensure there are no outward signs of donation.
